Laser Hair Removal
PRE AND POST CARE
Pre- Treatment
Avoid Sun Exposure
For 2 weeks prior to your laser hair removal, it’s important that the skin being treated is kept out of the sun. This includes both tanning beds and self-tanners.
Stop Plucking and Waxing
Laser hair removal works by targeting the roots of the hair, so it’s essential that you don’t pluck or wax the treated area at least 4-6 weeks prior to your first appointment. Shaving is okay, as it leaves the root in place.
Shave the Area
Even though it’s suggested that you stop plucking and waxing the area being treated, shaving it 24 to 48 hours prior your appointment is essential. Even though your hair is invisible to the naked eye, the laser is still able to target the pigment located in the hair’s root.
Check your Medication
Some medications can intervene with your laser treatments, making them less effective. Other medications can make the skin sensitive and more likely to burn or blister. You should especially inform your laser technician if you are on antibiotics, birth control, acne, and photosensitizing medications.
Remove Makeup or Creams
The ingredients in beauty products can sometimes affect the results of laser hair removal and should be removed prior to each of your treatments. This includes deodorant, makeup, lotions, ointments, and anything else applied topically to the area.
Post -Treatment
Exfoliate
Keep the treatment area clean
After 1 week exfoliate treated areas to minimize risk of ingrown hairs.
Avoid shaving the treated area for at least 4 days after treatment.
Do not wax, tweeze, bleach, or use hair removal creams or electrolysis on treatment area until all treatments are completed..
Protect
Avoid extended UV exposure for 14 days post-treatment. Protect the area with a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, and protect the skin from developing hyper-pigmentation marks.
Can apply makeup, lotion, resume shaving and apply skincare products to treatment area as early as the next day as long as the skin is not broken and there is no extended redness, blistering or scabbing. Thoroughly remove makeup and creams gently with a soft, clean cloth and mild cleanser. Pat to dry. The treated area is very delicate and should be treated with care. Excess rubbing can open the area and may lead to scarring.
Dont Panic
After the treatment, the treated area may become pink, red, inflamed, or even blistered and may last several hours to several days, apply the ice, cooling gels, Hydrocortisone or Neosporin to relief.
Final
To achieve the best results, complete the full treatment schedule at the intervals recommended by your technician.
